When I returned to India a few years ago, I became a SEBI Registered Investment Adviser and a SEBI Registered Research Analyst. However, because of the onerous compliance requirements under the regulations, I first surrendered the Investment Adviser Registration. Now, I am also in the process of surrendering the Research Analyst Registration of my firm, WaveTimes Management. This has certain consequences for India-based investors and traders who need my consulting services. These are outlined below.

For INDIA-BASED investors and traders, I can only do the following four activities.

1. Giving technical analysis relating to demand and supply in a sector or the index
2. Giving views on broad-based indices
3. Giving recommendations on spot commodities
4. Giving training or conducting workshops on researching stocks or investing in the stock market.

The good news is I can give specific stock examples when discussing the sector or index.

What about members who are overseas residents?
